About Musical Shed
Musical Shed is a free collection of online practice tools for musicians. The first one is a metronome dedicated to one exercise: the gap click, also known as muted bars or silent bars.
Why it exists
Playing in time means being able to keep the tempo when nothing is helping you. A normal metronome cannot test that, so the Musical Shed metronome alternates bars with a click and bars without one. Every Musical Shed tool is small and has a single job, and the goal is to make that job as simple and as reliable as possible: with the metronome, choose a pattern, press Start, listen.
What you will find here
- A metronome with six ready-made muted bars patterns (1:1, 2:1, 2:2, 4:1, 4:2 and 4:4) in 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8 and 12/8, from 40 to 240 BPM.

A note on names
“Gap click” is used on this site as a descriptive name for a practice exercise. Musical Shed is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any commercial product or app that uses the same name.
